PRESS QUOTES

"…have a glorious psych-folk rock anthem on their hands…”Fittin' In" is destined to be a banner track that will speak to the masses" – WJOE - Findlay's Home for Rock&Roll

"(Envy of Venus) sounds way to complex for a song of today and perhaps AKA BELLE are actually the ghosts of some band lost in the late sixties that have been resurrected for our listening pleasure' – Bluesbunny.com

“…makes the most inspirational, life affirming music. They'll change whatever mood you're in to the happiest and best side of you that exists. It's all miracle-like, really” – Daniel ‘Kid’ Yoshida, host of KRBX 89.9FM's “Country Jesus & the Extra-Terrestrial Highway”

“Dreamy, bluesy, psychedelic pop” – Akiko Kanazawa, artist

“Affectionate, empowered and hope-inspired” – BUMP magazine

"Opting for the lean and mean approach, AKA Belle’s ‘Fittin’ In’ is done and dusted in under two and a half minutes, but the number’s brevity really helps to make it feel more direct. Opening with a huge twangy guitar delivering a bluesy riff, the band shares a core melody falls somewhere between Duane Eddy and ‘Blunderbuss’ era Jack White, and the addition of a pleasingly mature sounding vocal genuinely escalates any feelings that this track sounds like something that’s been discovered buried deeply in a blues rock archive. It’s massively retro, but nothing here sounds at all tired: with the help of handclaps, a couple of interesting stops, broad harmonies and a sizable but simple hook, this is a fun track that should appeal to lovers of an old school sound. The fact that part of the main hook sounds as if it were inspired by the R&B classic ‘Lookin’ Back’ makes it even better!" – Lee, Real Gone Rocks

Idaho Press Tribune on a.k.a. Belle's Latest Recording Project

Recording vocal tracks at Audiolab

We spent some time with Chris Langrill, writer for Idaho Press Tribune (and formerly of Idaho Statesman), who talked with us about our upcoming project, which we have been recording in two different Boise studios, AudioLab and Tonic Room.  Why?  Here's a link to the story: a.k.a. Belle of the Ball

Mike, Sam, John...through the magic door at Tonic Room Recording Studio.

“I think they’re one of the most creative bands I’ve ever recorded,” Fulton said. “They don’t really hold themselves back from anything that they write. So, it’s fun for me to help them realize what’s in their head and make it come through in the recording.””

Steve Fulton, Audiolab Recording Studios

"A powerful summoning of spectral energy - ceremonial in feel, the song touches on the historical persecution/legacy of inequity of women and those who practice plant medicine, but at its core, is a savage hymn of body sovereignty.

Backing vocals from Rollerdome's Gia Trotter and Trippy Hearts' Jen Sutkowski help make "Raise Power" a sonic force."

Heartless Bastards + Aka Belle at Neurolux

Musically, there was plenty to discover. You could experience AKA Belle pouring their psych-folk evocations out the back of Roots, Afrosonics dancing the early evening away at Barbarian Brewing, or you could cap off the evening with Monophonics’ alluring wall-of-presence. There was a little bit of everything at Flipside from folk at Sandbar and Velvet Underground aggressive punk covers in a local winery parking lot. At the outset the culture of Flipside Fest was apparent… This is not Treefort.” - Nanobot Greg
